Illegal Flower Donation

Illegal Flower Donation
Flowers left outside Google’s offices in Beijing as a protest against state censorship.

“Chinese internet users staged a show of defiance of government censors with emotional tributes to Google following the US company’s threat to pull out,” The Financial Times reported:

Several people laid flowers and wreaths outside Google’s offices in the Zhongguancun high-tech district in Beijing. When security guards called the move “illegal,” the phrase “illegal flower donation” became an instant target for online mockery.
According to The New Zealand Herald, one Twitter user stated:
“China has created a new term: ‘illegal flower donation.’ To put ‘illegal‘ and ‘flower donation‘ together in one phrase, we live in an era of truly distorted values.
